The legend of the Black Rooster
The Black Rooster, historic symbol of Chianti Classico, has told the story of this land for centuries.
Legend has it that Florence and Siena decided to settle their borders through a challenge between knights, whose departure would be signalled by the first crow of a rooster. The Florentines chose a black rooster kept without food, which crowed before dawn, allowing their knight to set off early and advance as far as Fonterutoli, just a few kilometres from Siena.
Since then, the Black Rooster has become the symbol of Chianti and its historic tradition.
